Cowboy Series Mask - Doc Holiday
"Doc" Holliday
Life in the American West left its mark on those who came to tame it. A handful of unique people were strong enough to leave their mark on the West. One such individual was John Henry "Doc" Holliday.
Doc spent his earlier years in Georgia, then went to college to study dentistry. Sadly, he contracted tuberculosis while there. Disheartened and embittered he came out west. He began to practice dentistry, but then found that gambling was more entertaining. His talent for card playing took him thoughout the west where he met people who also found their way into the pages of history, such as Big Nose Kate and Wyatt Earp.
When the Earps traveled to a town called Tombstone, Doc went with them. There he took advantange of the many new saloons Tombstone had to offer.
Shortly after arriving the Earp brothers became involved in a feud with the Clanton gang, which would soon explode into the famous shoot-out at the O.K. Corral. Marshal Earp was alert to the danger and appointed Doc as a deputy. He fired one of the first shots of the fight, and although he was wounded in the hip he remained until the end. It is the stories of men like Doc that help us so vividly remember the Old West.
